Excavation is the backbone of almost any land development or construction project. Before you can build, dig in a pond, run a utility line, or address a drainage problem, the ground has to be opened up the right way. 3T Brush Control provides excavation services throughout Streetman, Texas and the surrounding region, working with precision and the right equipment for each job.
What Excavation Involves
Excavation is the process of digging, moving, or removing soil and material from the ground. It’s different from dozer work, which grades and shapes the surface — excavation goes deeper, cutting into the earth for specific purposes.
Common excavation applications we handle include digging foundations and footings for structures, excavating pond and tank basins, trenching for drainage lines or utility infrastructure, cutting in roads or drives that require significant depth, removing material for land leveling projects where the ground needs to be lowered, and preparing building pads that require material removal rather than just grading.
How We Approach Excavation Projects
Every excavation job starts with understanding what you’re building or digging toward. Depth, soil type, access, and what’s nearby all factor into how we approach the work. Our equipment is sized for the job, and our operators pay attention to the details that matter — keeping walls clean, working to the right depth, and managing the material that comes out of the ground in a way that serves the project.
Soil conditions in this part of Texas can vary considerably from one property to the next. Our experience working throughout this region means we’re not surprised by what we find, and we can adjust our approach when the ground presents a challenge.
Projects That Often Need Excavation
If you’re building a home on raw land, developing an agricultural property, putting in a new stock pond or fishing tank, running drainage improvements across a low-lying property, or laying the groundwork for a barn or other structure, excavation is likely part of your project.
Most projects that require excavation don’t happen in isolation. If the land still has heavy brush or overgrown vegetation before digging begins, Brush Clearing is typically the first step to open up access and give equipment room to work. Once excavation is complete, Dozer Work often follows to grade and shape the surrounding surface — building berms, leveling fill areas, and finishing the ground to the profile you need. For projects that are moving toward construction, Site Preparation brings everything together, getting the land ready for a foundation, driveway, or build pad once the digging is done.
For pond and tank projects specifically, excavation is the core of the work, but the overall scope often extends into shaping banks, managing water flow, and maintaining the area around the water once it’s established. Our Pond Maintenance service covers that ongoing care after the initial build. And if there are structures on the property that need to come down before or during the project, our Demolition service handles teardown and site clearance so excavation can proceed without obstacles.
We handle excavation as a standalone service or as part of a broader site development scope — whichever fits your project.

Frequently Asked Questions — Excavation
What’s the difference between excavation and dozer work?
Excavation uses a machine — typically an excavator — to dig down and lift material out of the ground. Dozer work pushes and grades material across the surface. Excavation is what you need when you’re digging a pond basin, a trench, or a foundation. Dozer work is better for leveling and shaping the surface grade. Many projects involve both.
How deep can you excavate?
That depends on the equipment being used and the scope of the project. For most rural and residential excavation work — pond building, foundations, drainage trenches — our equipment is well-suited to the depth required. We’ll be upfront if a project requires specialized equipment beyond what we operate.
Do I need to call 811 before excavation begins?
Yes. Before any excavation project, you should contact 811 (the national “Call Before You Dig” service) to have underground utilities located and marked. This is a basic safety and legal requirement. We expect this to be done before we begin digging.
Can you excavate a pond on my property?
Yes. Pond and tank construction is one of the services we offer. Excavation is typically a major component, often combined with dozer work to shape the banks and berms. See our Pond Maintenance page for more detail on what that service involves.
What happens to the soil that comes out of the ground?
That depends on the project. Excavated material can be used to build berms, fill in low spots on the property, or stockpiled for other uses. If you don’t have a use for it, we can discuss disposal options. We’ll figure out the best plan for your specific site.
How long does a typical excavation project take?
It varies significantly based on the volume of material involved, the depth, and the complexity. A small trench job might be completed in a few hours. A full pond excavation could take several days. We’ll give you a realistic timeframe once we understand the scope.
